Pre-File Bankruptcy Counseling
Pre-file bankruptcy counseling allows those considering bankruptcy the opportunity to meet with experienced counselors. Counselors will guide you through the process of a bankruptcy and provide you with the necessary information you will need to understand. The following is provided to participants in the pre-file counseling session:
- Assessment of Financial Situation
- Budget Analysis
- Education on Bankruptcy and its Consequences
- Alternatives to Bankruptcy
- Plan for Resolving Credit Problems
- Avoiding Future Financial Difficulty
- Proper Use of Credit
- Planning for Financial Recovery (after discharge)
- Certificate Required by the Bankruptcy Court is Issued
Before your bankruptcy is discharged (considered complete), participants are required to take a Financial Management/Debtor Education Course. HomeFront, Inc. provides this course using the MoneySmart Curriculum. The Money Smart Curriculum is divided into six modules:
- Bank On It
- Borrowing Basics
- Money Matters
- To Your Credit
- Charge It Right
- Loan to Own

Please Note: The fee for Pre-File Bankruptcy Counseling is $50.00; the fee for the Financial Management/ Debtor Education Course is $100.00.
